Young and Wise

Updated: Nov 28, 2021

Gracie Shy is an 18-year-old girl who originally grew up in Cheraw, South Carolina. She moved to Laurinburg, North Carolina nine years ago. She is a senior at Christ The Cornerstone Academy in Laurinburg. Gracie is the definition of a hard worker. She is a full-time student with a job and now pursuing her dream of living in a tiny house.

Gracie was inspired to live in a tiny house because she would love to have independence and she values her own space. She also believes that living in a tiny house is affordable and not materialistic. She has her Granddad help her out with her project needs. She plans to place her home on a piece of family land.

Some of the challenges Gracie has faced so far are financial and structural. Transitioning into a tiny house means giving up a lot of space and things to have your own space. Financially, the cost was more than she initially thought. That's why her granddad is doing most of the work at his own pace and as her budget allows.

Gracie’s favorite part of creating her tiny house is being able to use it as an outlet for creativity. She loves being able to design and decorate her own space to her likes, her needs, and her comforts.

Gracie’s Advice: “Develop a plan and a budget and go for it. That if it’s something they are passionate about it then do it. Always do what your heart is pushing you to do! “
